With
over 25 years in ceramics Steve has followed the spirit of Dante's
quotation:
"Do as the Divine: Create".
Steve
writes, "It's about doing what comes naturally, about playing, about
potential, and following thoughts and impulses. Seeing what happens
if I try this or that, and taking a ride to somewhere unknown. It's
about learning how to stand out of the way and let the process take
over. George Ohr, the Biloxi potter, wrote at the turn of the century:
"Clay follows the fingers and the fingers follow the mind."
I'm
happy that I have lived long enough to develop the skills needed to
create these objects."
Steve
displays consummate skill and a wonderfully playful approach to the
medium, the result being works of fancy which delight the viewer.
During this workshop we learned and played with Steve as he showed
us how to let go and let our inner, creative "child" have its way
with clay.
